Gylfi Sigurdsson Aims To Comeback ‘Stronger And Fitter’ After Knee Injury

Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has vowed to comeback stronger and fitter as he continues his rehabilitation programme over his knee injury. The Icelandic footballer suffered the damage during the Toffees’ 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion this month, and he has since been on the sidelines receiving treatment.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Sigurdsson went through the programme which he has been placed on, he said: “It is going well and I am steadily making progress each day. I have not had any setbacks, I am off the crutches and out of the brace and almost back to walking normally. I have to get through a lot of exercises with the physios and on the machines – and the hands-on treatment as well. I have been very lucky with injuries in my career and, hopefully, I will come back stronger and fitter than ever.”

Sam Allardyce Would Have Prevented Ross Barkley’s Sale, Claims Moshiri

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri claims that Chelsea could have missed out on signing Ross Barkley due to a late intervention from Sam Allardyce. The newly appointed manager was keen to keep Barkley at the club. However, it was becoming increasingly difficult, as the 24-year-old only had six months left on his contract. Chelsea took advantage of the situation by signing the player for £ 15 million. Only six months ago, the blues had a £ 35 million bid accepted but the player turned on the move to Stamford Bridge. It was suggested that he was holding out for a move to Arsenal or Tottenham.

Rather than sell the player for nothing, Everton found it suitable to get the player go for around £ 15 million. Allardyce has been appointed as the permanent replacement for Ronald Koeman. His arrival has coincided with a significant jump in form. However, it is understood that Allardyce is not happy with the transfer dealings at Everton.

Sam Allardyce Hints At Recruiting More Champions League Players

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has plans on recruiting more players with Champions League experience after having ran a secret scouting mission on Sevilla during their round of 16 tie versus Manchester United. The Andalusian outfit dominated the proceedings against the Red Devils in both legs, and they eventually ran 2-1 victors with Steven N’Zonzi starring across both legs.

Allardyce has openly spoken about his admiration for N’Zonzi during his previous years, and he admitted that the Toffees need more players with European experience to improve the overall attributes of the squad, he said: “You’ve got to find out about the players, in the main. Sevilla are a fantastic club.Cenk is playing Champions League football but wants to come to the Premier League so you look out for a bit of that and see what might improve you in the future. I was very impressed with Sevilla on the night, they were absolutely outstanding and how they mastered the pressure of Old Trafford. Which meant I’ve never seen an Old Trafford quite so quiet as I saw them.”

Sam Allardyce admits Cenk Tosun is struggling to adapt to Premier League football

Everton head coach Sam Allardyce has said that winter signing Cenk Tosun is struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. The Turkey international joined the Toffees from Besiktas midway through the top-flight season, but he has since struggled with just two starts to his name.

Sam Allardyce Reveals Christmas Schedule for His Everton Players

Everton manager Sam Allardyce reveals that his players will not be called in for Christmas training, as he never liked the regime while as a player. The English tradition of Boxing Day football means that players will be called in for training on Christmas for the subsequent match. However, Allardyce says that he never found this to be beneficial and that it would be better if players went straight into the games. Fatigue is one of the commonly discussed elements at this time of the year, as players go through a gruelling schedule that involves matches on Boxing Day and New Year. There is also another match scheduled in between this period, thus making up for almost 7 to 8 matches – for the top teams – during December.

Allardyce has made a return to management with Everton and he will be looking to transform his successful days to Goodison Park. The former Bolton and Newcastle manager has experienced team and success wherever he has been, but he recently decided to leave the West Ham managerial role for the England job. After the controversy with England, Allardyce took some time off before returning to management. He has had a successful time back in the game after getting Everton unbeaten in six matches – including draws against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Andy Gray believes Everton lack leadership

Everton legend Andy Gray believes his former club are devoid of confidence and leadership following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lyon. The Toffees suffered another damaging loss in the Europa League after Bertrand Traore bagged a late winner for Bruno Genesio’s men. As a result, the Merseyside outfit are at the bottom of Group E, and they require a huge upturn in form in the final three games in order to avoid elimination.

In a report covered by The Mirror, Gray was not pleased with the performance of his ex-club, and targeted Ashley Williams, in particular, after the Welshman involved himself in mini-brawl in the second-half, he said: “I watched on Thursday in despair and I texted two or three old team-mates to clarify what I’d seen was right. I wanted one of them to say, ‘No, no, no…’ But they came back and said exactly what I was thinking. I watched a squad devoid of confidence, devoid of belief and without leadership. If Ashley Williams thinks shoving a goalkeeper to the ground is leadership… No, it’s not. What I will ask is, ‘If not Koeman then who?’, because it’s always easy for people to say, ‘He has to go.”

Everton are presently lingering just two points above the drop zone after eight games played, and this is far beyond the expectation of the club’s hierarchy, who spent in excess of £120m in the summer. The Toffees were initially touted as potential candidates for the Champions League spot, but the departure of Romelu Lukaku has notably reduced their goal-scoring threat.

The likes of Sandro Ramirez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are still adapting to the pace of the Premier League whilst Wayne Rooney appears past his prime – with just one penalty goal scored in the past six outings. Everton take on Arsenal (Premier League) and Chelsea (League Cup) in the next two matches, and Gray is hopeful that the Toffees can at least provide a strong performance to bring cheer to the fans.

Medicine of confidence can help Everton – Ronald Koeman

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is hopeful that the club’s medicine of confidence will kick in when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend.

The Toffees have made a below-par start to their top-flight campaign, and this has resulted in them dropping into the relegation zone in 18th place. The Toffees have played the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the span of just five games, and they could consider themselves unlucky to have received such a tough fixture list at the start of the season.

Everton secured a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Sunderland in the League Cup on Wednesday night after Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a brace and Koeman has challenged his side to hit a similar run of form in the league starting from the game against the Cherries. He said: “Now we need to see we’re still strong. I’m confident in what I saw yesterday – that’s always the best medicine, to get the confidence you need for good performances. Good performances normally mean winning games.” Continue Reading

Ronald Koeman Admits to Possibility of Signing Diego Costa

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has sensationally refused to rule out a potential move for Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who is very keen on leaving the club in this summer transfer window.

Costa was the top scorer at Chelsea last season as his 20 goals in the league helped the club lift the Premier league for a second time in the last three seasons. However, manager Antonio Conte decided to not make him out of the plans for the 2017-18 campaign and he has been at loggerheads with the club ever since. Costa has been angling towards a move to Atletico Madrid, his former club, but the move has not materialised due to a variety of issues.

Atletico Madrid are banned from signing new players until January. Hence, even if Costa makes the move, he will have to train without any football for the next few months. Furthermore, Atletico are also far away from matching Chelsea’s £ 50 million valuation of player. Continue Reading

KOEMAN: EXPECT MORE FROM EVERTON THIS SUMMER

Everton FC manager Ronald Koeman has dismissed talks that his side have been big spenders this summer.

The Dutchman insists that more activity should be expected before the transfer deadline. The former Ajax boss says he still wants to add at least three players in Gylfi Sigurdsson, a defender in the left wing and a goal poacher to play centre forward.

Koeman explained that after selling off RomeluLukakuto Manchester United in a mega deal that brought in around £90 million, the club was within their limits with regards to transfers so far.

“I heard every time that ‘Everton is spending £100 million, £100 million, £100 million’ but I saw the list and I think we’re 16th in the league for spending and we got £95 million for Lukaku. We’ve only spent £7 million. It’s a different picture then the media is talking. Three positions we need,” Koeman said. Continue Reading

Ronald Koeman insists Wayne Rooney is still one of the best in his position

Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits Wayne Rooney is still one of the best in his position despite falling out-of-favour with Manchester United and England last season.

The 31-year-old joined the Toffees on a free transfer earlier this month and he has since made an immediate impact for the Merseyside club.

Rooney hit a sublime long range effort in his comeback game against GorMahia while he also found the scoresheet against Belgian club Genk. The veteran made just 15 league starts for United last term, but Koeman does not believe the striker has lost his key attributes.

He told the club’s official website: “He has a lot of experience. He is an important player on the pitch but also important for his team-mates and certainly the young players to show them what you need to do to reach that high standard of football. That means he needs to be a leader off the pitch and if I see how he’s working and what he’s doing with all the players it’s really what we want. Every day in training so far and in the friendlies, you see why he’s one of the best in his position and one of the best players.” Continue Reading
