ROONEY REPORTS DENIED
The Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill has said that the reports linking Wayne Rooney with a move away from the club are extremely untrue. The 26-year-old England striker has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford following the arrival of the Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.
Despite scoring 35 goals in all competitions last season, Wayne Rooney has been extremely out of shape in the first two matches of the season. As a result, the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided to drop him from the match against Fulham. Robin van Persie scored on his home debut for Manchester United in the 3-2 win over Fulham.
Wayne Rooney was only a substitute in the match, but he suffered a major thigh injury that will keep him out of the next two months action for Manchester United. Due to the fact that he has been playing 10 years at the top level, there have been many suspecting that Wayne Rooney has lost the appetite for playing at the top level. This has led to rumours suggesting that Manchester United will be willing to cash in on the striker, who has three years left on his deal, for around £ 40 million.
“Wayne is definitely not for sale and I can categorically say there has been no discussion within the club or with his agent. He is in a long-term contract with us and is very integral to our team. Wayne’s a great player who has got a bad injury – but he will come back. He didn’t start on Saturday for various reasons. Alex Ferguson picks the best team to win the game and that’s it,” Gill told the Sun in response to the speculation surrounding the future of the 26-year-old star striker Wayne Rooney.
